Macaulay is the author and illustrator of many books on architecture and design including the famous The Way Things Work. His titles break down complex engineering and architectural processes to make them understandable and fun for kids who are interested in how their world is put together. Each of his books are painstakingly researched and illustrated, and he has won many awards for his work including, a Caldecott Medal, the Boston-Globe Book Horn Award, the Christopher Award, an American Institute of Architects Medal, and the Washington Children's Book Guild Nonfiction Award.
