Take Time to Paws-to-Read

Could your child use a reading treat during the chaotic and sometimes stressful holiday season?  Paws-to-Read is a Library program that invites elementary school aged children to practice their reading skills by reading to trained therapy dogs:

Parents can register kids for a 15 minute time slot by phone:
  • Central Library - 2nd and 4th Monday of each month, from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. 703-228-5946
  • Columbia Pike Branch Library - 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month, from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. 703-228-5710
  • Shirlington - 2nd Wednesday of each month, from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. 703-228-6545
  • Westover - 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month, from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. 703-228-5260

  1. We love PAWS, and are very grateful for the opportunity. Only one of my children has bona fide reading problems - the program accommodated the other two because they just loved the idea. Now they all look forward to it as a treat! They talk about which of the dogs are their favorites and joke about getting a thorough bath from Tavish. Another great program from the library!
